OIC Secretary General Receives Dr. Hadi bin Ali Alyami – IPHRC New Executive Director

Jeddah, 24 August 2025: His Excellency Mr. Hissein Ibrahim Taha, OIC Secretary-General, received His Excellency Dr. Hadi Ali Al-Yami, IPHRC Executive Director, at the OIC General Secretariat Headquarters on Sunday, August 24, 2025. His Excellency, the OIC Secretary-General, expressed warm congratulations to His Excellency, the IPHRC Executive Director, for assuming the new position at IPHRC, wishing him constant success while supporting the IPHRC’s roles and efforts.
His Excellency Dr. Alyami is a prominent figure in the landscape of human rights and the legislative and legal realm. He has extensive experience and subject-matter expertise in legislative and legal positions, having held various leadership positions, including but not limited to the following:
* Member of the Shura Council for two consecutive terms in a row (7+8), making significant contributions to legislative and social committees;
* Member of Human Rights Commission for two terms (1+2), seekin to develop protection programs and promote legal awareness;
* Chairman of the Arab Human Rights Committee at the League of Arab States for four years, leading all-out and concerted efforts to develop a dedicated mechanism for follow-up and reporting across the Arab Region;
* Chairman of Board of Directors of the Ihsan Legal Services Association, concerned with enabling vulnerable groups to access and enjoy justice.
Dr. Alyami holds a PhD degree in law and is a professor of international human rights law at several Saudi universities. Notably, Dr. Alyami showcases extensive international and regional engagement, contributing to the development of national policies and legislation on governance, rights, and environment, in addition to his in-depth expertise in human rights diplomacy at the Arab Region level.
For his part, the IPHRC Executive Director expressed his warm gratitude to the OIC Secretary-General for his continued support of IPHRC, affirming his unwavering readiness to cooperate closely with the Secretariat-General in light of the complementary work of OIC institutions.
In the same vein, Dr. Alyami expressed his deep gratitude and appreciation to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and His Royal Highness Crown Prince for this precious trust of nominating him to this post, emphasizing that such honorary assignment represents a great national and international responsibility.
IPHRC is of strategic importance as the first specialized human rights body within the OIC. Equally important, IPHRC undertakes multiple tasks, including promoting the principles of human rights and fundamental freedoms across Member States, monitoring human rights obligations, documenting violations against Muslim peoples, developing and conducting research studies, and actively participating in international forums.
It is such a great support that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is the host country to the OIC-IPHRC Headquarters and all relevant institutions in Jeddah. This move shows constant commitment by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia-including its leadership and governemlent- to promoting the values ​​of human dignity, justice, and human rights across the Islamic World.
