Jeddah 26th April 2025: The Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission (IPHRC) of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) is honored to convey that H.E. Prof. Dr. Noura Zaid Alrshoud, Executive Director of the IPHRC Secretariat, a national of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, has been conferred with the Jubilee Medal for the “20th Anniversary of the Institution of the Human Rights Commissioner (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan (2002-2022).” This prestigious award is approved by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan to recognize Prof. Dr. Noura Zaid Alrshoud’s contributions to the field of human rights.
The Commission observes that this prestigious honor is not only a well-deserved acknowledgment of Prof. Dr. Noura Zaid Alrshoud’s personal achievements but also a matter of immense pride for the OIC and its Member States which underscores the international recognition of our collective efforts in upholding and promoting human rights values consistent with Islamic principles. In her capacity as the first female Executive Director of the IPHRC Secretariat, working with 57 Member States across four continents, she has set a remarkable precedent of leadership, advocacy, and dedication to human rights. Her tireless efforts have helped empowering women, removing misperceptions about Islam and human rights, galvanizing normative developments in areas like Artificial Intelligence, women and child rights and intensifying cooperation with the National Human Rights Institutions of the OIC and other regional and international organizations. This international recognition holds profound significance further catalyzing the cause of women empowerment within Muslim communities and encouraging greater participation of women in this noble pursuit.
The Commission expresses its sincere gratitude to the esteemed Human Rights Commissioner (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan for this commendable initiative which is a testament to the enduring commitment of the Government of Azerbaijan supporting the human rights causes of IPHRC and OIC.
The Commission also expresses its appreciation for the support it has received from the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and His Royal Highness Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, for hosting the headquarters of the Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission and providing all logistical facilities to ensure the effective and independent functioning of this important organ of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
The Commission also expresses profound gratitude to all the OIC Member States and the OIC Secretary General for their trust and confidence in the work of this Commission and shall continue to seek their cooperation in fulfilling mandates and objectives related to protection and promotion of human rights.
