Jeddah 30th July 2025: The Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission (IPHRC) of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) welcomes the holding of the high-level international conference for the peaceful settlement of the Palestine issue being co-chaired by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and France to revive global momentum around recognition of the Palestinian Statehood and to bring a lasting and durable end to the ongoing Israeli agression against Palestinians, and avert consequent humanitarian catastrophe in the Gaza Strip.
The Commission reaffirmed that lasting peace and justice in the region require the realization of the inalienable right of the Palestinian people to self-determination and establishment of an independent Palestinian State with Al-Quds Al-Sharif in East Jerusalem as its capital. The announcement by France of its willingness to recognize the State of Palestine during the upcoming session of the UN General Assembly, is a welcome and significant development. It could act as a catalyst for other countries to follow suit, reinforcing the growing international consensus in support of Palestinian statehood, which is already recognized by the majority of United Nations Member States, including several European nations.
The Commission also welcomed the calls made by the participants of the Conference to bring an urgent and comprehensive end to the ongoing humanitarian disaster caused by the Israeli military aggression and grave human rights violations and to hold those responsible accountable in accordance with international human rights and humanitarian law. The Commission also, appreciate the call made by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for seeking the approval of the World Bank to transfer $300 million to Gaza Strip and the West Bank to counter the dire humanitarian crisis.
Given the severity of the impending famine, the Commission welcomes all efforts of OIC Member States to establish a humanitarina corridor to supply vital relief items, including food and infrastructure supplies to Gaza Strip. The aid delivery comes amid growing international pressure on the Israeli occupation regime to allow unhindered humanitarian access to Gaza, where UN agencies have warned of imminent famine and widespread destruction of civilian infrastructure due to ongoing Israeli military operations. The Commission calls for a permanent ceasefire and end to Israeli humanitarian blockade to ensure suply of critical food supplies in a consistent, predictable, orderly and safe manner through all available routes.
